Snow and Ice Removal

Snow and Ice Removal Guidelines established January 2010
Guidelines for Snow and Ice Removal                               January 2010

ALL PERSONS ON THE MOUNTAIN SHOULD ABIDE BY THE INSTRUCTIONS AND CAUTIONS PROVIDED BY THE WORKERS CLEARING THE ROADWAYS. GOING AGAINST CAUTIONS AND WARNINGS MEANS TRAVELING AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Priority of Roads Clearing
Roads will generally be cleared with the following priorities. Under some circumstances, roads may be cleared as they are encountered while plowing.

Paved section of Buck Mountain Road (includes treatment for ice)

   Chalk Dust                                Lucas                                      Pine Burr
Carter’s Lane                           Shepard’s Run                       Warren Way
Beauty Drive                            Hominy                                  Any other roads

Timing of Snow/Ice Removal
The pavement of Buck Mountain Road will be cleared as soon as snow reaches 2 inches in depth. If snowfall occurs overnight, the road crew will begin clearing the pavement by 6:00 AM. Residents should expect that the pavement will not be fully cleared (and treated for ice) until after 10:00 AM.
Road crews attempting to remove snow from gravel roads will begin by 7:30 AM if snow has fallen overnight.
In general, crews will not work past sunset to clear roads unless the crew deems that the quantity of snow expected dictates continued removal efforts.
The crews are given full authority to discontinue work at anytime if conditions appear to be unsafe.
The POA is not responsible for removing the snow or ice from driveway entrances caused by plowing the road, nor do we do driveways or mailbox access.
Roads or maintained easements that have houses but no occupants will not be plowed as a cost savings to the roads budget. If you live on one of these roads or easements and have plans to come to your property, call PAT JONES, Community Administrator at 336-973-0419 2 or 3 days in advance and every effort will be made to clear your road.
Residents who must exit for medical reasons, job requirements, or emergency medical service employees should contact Pat Jones to be put on the priority list for the roads manager.
